Samantha Maywell worked as Mermaid Samantha at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Spring Hill, Florida prior to Samantha’s 22 August 2013 propeller accident. She and some other mermaids were out enjoying the Gulf of Mexico on a pontoon boat when a wave knocked her over the rail and into the propeller.

A series of fundraisers are being held to help cover her rising medical costs.

A successful fundraiser was held yesterday (Sept 5, 2013) at Texas Roadhouse and another is planned for Saturday September 14, 2013 at Chick-fil-A on Cortez Blvd in Brooksville, Florida from 4 to 7 pm. The event will feature raffles, a donation bucket, and may have some mermaids in tails present. A portion of the proceeds during those hours will be donated to Samantha. Please come out if you are in the area. It will be great event for everybody, especially children.
